BSP Factory [2004]
A downloadable tool for Windows
An old tool to convert Quake 1 and Half-Life levels into other formats, for use into the game engines I was using back in the day, like Blitz3D. The problem is that these engines usually only supported Quake3 BSP files, and the tools used for compiling the BSP were not free, while the ones for Quake1 BSP format were. This tool converted info .b3d and .x format for use in other engine. The description on the old website read like this:
Welcome to the world of BSP Factory. This program allows you to load BSP files (Quake or Half-Life version), calculate the scene illumination, and export it to several formats, ready to use in many common 3D engines. You can write your own export plugins to have the map exported in any format you want, and it supports Blitz3D and DirectX natively. It is capable of creating impressive visual effects (alpha maps, masked textures, spherical maps, cube maps, specular lighting, full-bright textures), and delete invisible faces automatically.
The purpose of BSP Factory is to allow the games developer to load maps created with Quark (a powerful map editor which is completely free), Qoole (very easy to use map editor) or Valve's Hammer (with previous payment of license taxes to Valve Software Corporation), using Zoner's Half-Life Tools to compile the MAP files used by the editor into the BSP files used by BSP Factory.
